Our story

Built by band people, for band people

We know the chaos of managing a community band because we've lived it.

Backstage Baton started with a simple observation: community bands are run by dedicated volunteers who juggle rosters, music libraries, rehearsal schedules, and communications using a patchwork of spreadsheets, email chains, and shared drives. The people making the music shouldn't have to fight their tools.

We built Backstage Baton to be the single platform that handles everything a community ensemble needs — from member management and music libraries to performance scheduling, rehearsal communications, and a mobile experience that actually feels like an app. Every feature was designed with input from real band directors, librarians, section leaders, and board members.

What we believe

Volunteers deserve real tools

Just because your organization runs on volunteer hours doesn't mean your software should feel amateur.

One platform, not twelve

Every feature should be connected. Your roster knows your setlist knows your schedule knows your notifications.

AI should amplify, not replace

Our AI assistant helps directors, librarians, and managers do their jobs faster. It doesn't replace their expertise.

Mobile-first, not mobile-as-an-afterthought

Members live on their phones. Backstage Baton installs to the home screen on iPhone and Android with one tap — and the whole experience is built for the small screen first.

The team

Backstage Baton is built by a small team of musicians and engineers based in Colorado. We play in community bands ourselves, so we build features we actually want to use.
